Laura Barbanel has been involved with the MIP program as a former Co-Director of the program and former Executive Director of the Trauma Treatment Program. She is at present a clinical consultant to the MIP program. She is a graduate of the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. She works with individuals, couples and families. As the former director of the School Psychology Program at Brooklyn college, she trained many of the school psychologists in NYC. In that role she developed the Bilingual School Psychology Program, which served as a model in NY state. Dr. Barbanel’s clinical work includes work with Immigration, multicultural issues and with trauma. She has written and presented on these issues. She is a fellow of the American Psychology Association and a Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology. She has served in several elected and appointed positions in the American Psychological Association including its board of directors.
